Our ecological volunteering programm
In 2015, Carlos felt a strong calling to work with bees. He soon realized that this passion was not only his own, but a dream that had been passed down through generations. Discovering that his grandfather had also worked with bees added to this realization. Carlos' deep love for bees drove him to uncover alarming statistics from the local Talamanca Fire Department: millions of bees had been exterminated in the community. Surprisingly, despite the presence of numerous wildlife rescue centers in Costa Rica, it seemed that no one was actively protecting this vital insect, which holds immense significance for our planet.
Carlos' love and commitment to saving and protecting bees was what gave origin to Api-Agricultura. He set out on a mission to rescue and protect bees. It was also necessary to raise awareness of the important role bees have in our life so that people began to see them as a life resource rather than as a threat. To accomplished this we created local school bee gardens and open doors for bee tours as we had transformed our living space into a bee haven!
Today, Api-Agricultura has become our cherished family dream and a labor of love. We have wholeheartedly dedicated our lives and resources to preserving the survival of bees within our community. Our thriving bee garden proudly houses 14 distinct stingless bee families and hosts well over 200 beehives, each buzzing with life and vitality. This represents only a fraction of the numerous hives that we have diligently rescued and reintroduced into the ecosystem over the past few years.
Our future goal is to continue rescuing bees and to spread awareness about the importance of protecting rainforests and preserving biodiversity. We want to reach out to more people, schools, and communities, highlighting the crucial role bees play in our survival. By fostering a deep understanding of the independence between bees, rainforests, and biodiversity, we hope to inspire erveryone to join us in preserving these valuable ecosystems for future generations. Together, we can create a sustainable future where bees thrive, rainforests flourish, and the diversity of life is safeguarded.
